A small frame drum that supports the mridangam.
About
A single-headed frame drum, about 7 to 9 inches across, made of jackfruit wood with a few small metal discs that jingle. The head was traditionally monitor-lizard skin; goat skin or synthetic heads are used now. It is held in one hand and played with the other, and the pitch can be changed with the fingers near the rim.
