Biography

A concert vocalist born in 1890. Wikipedia says he made his debut in 1918 at the Tyagaraja Aradhana, but flags that statement as unsourced; another profile says his debut was at a Chettiar family wedding in front of his guru and that he later sang at the Aradhana at Thiruvaiyaru.

Notable contributions

Often credited with establishing the modern concert (kutcheri) format. One profile describes his format as a varnam, a few brisk kritis each with a short alapana, neraval and swaras, a ragam-tanam-pallavi of about half an hour, lighter pieces (tukkadas) and a closing tillana. Wikipedia credits him with the modern concert tradition but does not say what he changed.
